Rick Larson
North Carolina Program Director, Natural Capital Investment Fund; Director of Sustainable Ventures, The Conservation Fund
Rick Larson directs the North Carolina operations of the Natural Capital Investment Fund which invests subordinated debt and equity in environmental and natural-resource based businesses. He also assists with financial modeling and business planning for The Conservation Fund’s carbon sequestration offerings. Prior to joining TCF in 2007, he was Managing Director of SJF Ventures, a $45M mission-driven venture capital fund based in Durham, NC. For twelve years he was Executive Director of REAL Enterprises, a nationwide entrepreneurship education program for rural youth and adults. Rick also held shop floor supervision and financial controller positions for the Cummins Engine Co.
Rick is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Columbia University, where he teaches a course on Financing Social Ventures at Columbia Business School. He serves on the Board of TransFair USA, which certifies Fair Trade products in the US. Rick lives in Durham, NC with his wife Gair and sons Justin and David. He earned an MBA from the Yale School of Management and a BA in History and French (Phi Beta Kappa) from Amherst College.
